Promo Trail!

Michelle Williams - who just won a Golden Globe for her performance in My Week with Marilyn - has been hitting the campaign trail with aplomb. Pulling out elegant look after look, here she is in Jason Wu, Chanel, Miu Miu and then Jason Wu again. Some people find her style a bit too cutesy or whimsical, but I love the fact that she has a style 'persona' but it still happy to experiment too. And I LOVE her hair.
I read the books that the film are based on during a plane trip the other day. The first book The Prince, The Showgirl and Me was a fun and gossipy read about life on a film set in the 1950s. It appealed to the old movie buff in me. My Week with Marilyn (the author's supposed 'lost week' where he had an almost affair with Marilyn Monroe) was only so so, but I could see the filmic potential in it. I'm looking forward to finally seeing the finished product.

And what of the rest of the Golden Globes? I love to look at pretty dresses any day, any time, but these big events of late tend to be a bit ho hum. It's not very often that you see a truly dramatic dress. So, for me, my pick from this year is Evan Rachel Woods in Gucci Premiere. Not necessarily something I would wear but ERW looks smashing in it. And what's not to love about a plunging neckline, sequins and feathers, all in the same dress.

Cocktail Frocks of the Week

There were so many lovely cocktail frocks on the red-carpet this week, that I can't resist posting not one, not two, but three frocks of the week.

Demi Moore looked drop dead gorgeous in this black & white frock with bow accents from up-and-coming US based designer Prabal Gurung. She is nicely coordinated with her hubby too; this couple are too ridiculously good-looking.

I couldn't resist showing the back as well. A bow and a train - what is there not to love?

Jason Wu is another up-and-coming designer, and regular readers would know that I'm rather partial to his use of colour and his elegant shapes. I was excited to see two creations from his latest collection out-and-about this week, and on two of Hollywood's most fashionable actresses.

Diane Kruger looks flawless in this Swiss dot one-shouldered party frock.

And how cute does Leslie Mann look in this yellow mini with peplum and waist cinching black belt?

It is so nice to see pretty, feminine cocktail frocks making the rounds. I'm a bit tired of the hard-edged glam eighties inspired numbers.

New York London Milan

The Spring Summer R-T-W shows have been consuming volumes of the download quota of fashionistas around the world of late. Even though my tastes tend toward fashions of the past, I still like checking out what some of my preferred designers are sending down the catwalks.
All the lovely images are grist for the inspiration mill. For examply I think theMarc for Marc Jacobs jacket above is to die for.

Luisa Beccaria's collection was romantic and undeniably pretty. Luella's show screamed early 60's lady-like glamour. Jason Wu is simply fabulous and utterly wearable.
And best of all was Erdem, where the devil was in the details. His collection included the most divine prints and, although his silhouettes were inspired by the past, his creations looked worthy of replicating on their own merits.
I'm no high fashion expert, but here are a few of my favourite looks.
