Vintage Sex and the City

I was just reading an interesting post over at the Worn Magazine blog about the golden days of SATC. The author laments the more recent sell-out of the franchise to the highest of high fashion and product placement. If you were a fan of the television series (and perhaps a SATC Movie cynic like me?), it is worth a quick read. But the main reason I mention this post is because of the stripey and strapless dress Carrie is wearing in one of the golden days pics used to illustrate it.

I saw this dress (can anyone remember which series and episode this is from?) and knew that I had seen it somewhere before. It turns out I lusted after this very same 1980s delight months ago when it went up for sale over at Lucitebox. See below:

It is the exact same dress, right? No mention of its SATC appearance on the Lucitebox site, which is funny when you consider how many name necklaces and faux floral brooches sold off the back of Carrie Bradshaw.

Lucky it has now found a new home and has avoided my crowded closet.

And lucky for me there are plenty more vintage frocks on the Internet just screaming to be worn. Just check out these other Lucitebox goodies.

In much the same way that I drew inspiration from Patricia Field and her muse Carrie Bradshaw in the first four years of the TV series, now I draw inspiration from all the fine vintage retailers and bloggers inhabiting cyber space.

Oh Sex and the City. It wasn't always beautiful, but it was definitely lots of fun.

Lucitebox has gorgeous stuff. I think the striped dress looks better on the mannequin than on Carrie.

I think you're right. It doesn't look quite right around the bodice.
Hopefully it'll fit its new owner better.
